We are looking for suitably qualified, highly motivated, talented, innovative, hands-on, dynamic team player capable of working both collaboratively, as well as independently. Suitable candidate should possess a high level of integrity, show strong commitment, and express the desire to deliver operational excellence through Zero Harm. The position is based at the Mine Site located between Maun and Sehithwa in Ngamiland. To be successful, you must enjoy getting out on site and have the enthusiasm, and interest to work in a remote location, as well as deliver in a multicultural work environment. BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:

 

The Junior Mining Engineer is responsible for monitoring, assessing, and overseeing work undertaken by contractors to ensure full compliance with MMG Khoemacau Copper Mining specifications, contractual requirements, and approved scopes of work. The role will be enforcing compliance with applicable Botswana mining legislation and MMG Khoemacau safety standards, systems, and procedures.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Your key accountabilities include:

 

  • Identify unsafe conditions and behaviours that pose risks to the health and safety of personnel, or that may result in damage to equipment or infrastructure and implementing appropriate preventative and corrective measures.
  • Promoting and maintaining a work environment aligned with MMG Khoemacau SHEC standards and actively supporting the development of positive safety behaviours.
  • Reviewing and providing recommendations to the Production Superintendent regarding the approval or rejection of contractor delay claims.
  • Participating in contractual meetings, technical reviews, and reporting forums.
  • Interfacing with internal departments and external contractors on matters relating to cost control, performance, progress measurement, payment certification, reporting, trends, and change orders.
  • Ensuring contractor compliance with respect to quality, schedule, and cost requirements.
  • Verifying compliance with Approved for Construction (AFC) drawings, specifications, and methodologies.
  • Implementing and executing audit protocols, inspections, and compliance checks.
  • Reconciling executed work against AFC designs and approved scopes and implementing corrective measures where deviations are identified.
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable legal requirements, statutory obligations, and MMG Khoemacau standards and procedures.
  • Maintaining strict adherence to document control protocols for data storage, mine plans, engineering drawings, and all related technical documentation for assigned corridors or work areas.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:

 

  • Bachelor of Engineering (BE) or Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Mining Engineering or relevant technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience, including exposure to both operational and technical mining environments.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in underground mechanised mining operations, with progressively increasing responsibilities.
  • Demonstrating experience in one or more of the following areas within an underground hard rock mining environment:
  • Mine planning (design and scheduling)
  • Ventilation
  • Paste fill systems
  • Underground infrastructure projects
  • Geotechnical engineering
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Proven contractor management, coordination, and performance monitoring skills.
