Rosebery is an underground polymetallic base metal mine located in the township of Rosebery in Tasmania, Australia. The mine is a deep, sub-level open stoping operation with complex mining conditions.
The Rosebery Mine has been at the heart of the Rosebery community since 1936 and is one of Tasmania’s largest and oldest continuously operating, underground mines producing zinc, copper and lead concentrates, as well as gold doré.
It supports approximately 500 employees and their families, has a strong community focus and engages a wide range of local businesses from across Tasmania in its supply chain boosting the economy of the West Coast of Tasmania and beyond.
The mine has a strong future, with extensive exploration activities which have continued to grow the resource and require mine planning beyond 10 years of continued operation.
MMG Rosebery has an office in Burnie (Tasmania), giving employees the flexibility to work from there when they are not required onsite.
Project Geologist
Reporting to the Senior Exploration Geologist, this position is responsible for managing the drilling and geological programs relating to growth and resource conversion at the Rosebery Operation.
It will also assist, the targeting of in-mine and near-mine environments by integration of all geodata and will provide technical and logistical support to the drilling programs at Rosebery as part of the Life Extension Program
This role is based onsite at our Rosebery operation with relocation support or DIDO on an 8:6 or 12:9 roster.
Key responsibilities will include (however not limited to):
- Foster geoscientific collaboration across the Geology team and support innovation.
- Assist in the evaluation and identification of potential economic mineralisation that supports the site’s growth strategies.
- Formulate, support, and oversee all drilling programs that effectively tests the site’s growth targets.
- Drive the integration of all geodata into 3D dimensional models that facilitate target generation, ore extraction improvement and orebody knowledge studies.
- Supervision of field programs, staff and contractors.
- Technical report and presentation production.
- Provide a high level of effective geo-communication across the business.
- Support the Senior Exploration Geologist in other duties as required.
- Demonstrate MMG’s SHEC values through personal behaviours and conversations, ensuring all activities are carried out to the highest standard of safety.
About You
- BSc (Hons) or higher in Geoscience
- 3 + years professional experience in exploration/mine geology
- Exposure to VHMS or base metal deposits, extensive management of drilling programs
- Knowledge of Government approvals and environmental requirements for drilling
- Experience in Supervision and mentoring of team members and contractors
- Planning, implementation and management of drilling programs while promoting best practice of geological methodologies.
- Proficient multi-tasking and rescheduling capabilities
- Proficient in 3D Modelling, database and QAQC protocols with an understanding of complex base metal mineral systems
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- An unwavering commitment to safe work practices with demonstrate safe behaviour at all times and comply with the site’s standards and procedures
- A manual C Class driver’s license
- First aid certificate – Desirable
- Ability to pass a Police Clearance, Pre employment Medical and DAS.
